چکیده

This paper introduces a novel algorithm for delay extraction-based passive macromodeling of multiconductor transmission line type interconnects characterized by multiport (Y, Z, S, or H) tabulated parameters. The algorithm determines a unique logarithm of the H parameters, which is then approximated using a low-order rational function. Subsequently, the DEPACT (delay extractionbased passive compact transmission line macromodel) algorithm is applied to obtain a passive and causal macromodel for SPICE simulation. The new method leads to compact, low-order macromodels resulting in faster transient simulations.

Efficient Macromodeling Techniques of Distributed Networks Using Tabulated Data

Efficient macromodeling techniques used to model multi-port distributed systems using tabulated data are presented. First a method to macromodel large multiport systems characterized by noisy frequency domain data is shown. The proposed method is based on the vector fitting algorithm and uses an instrumental variable approach and QR decomposition to formulate the least squares equations. The in...

Simulation of High-Speed Interconnects

With the rapid developments in very large-scale integration (VLSI) technology, design and computer-aided design (CAD) techniques, at both the chip and package level, the operating frequencies are fast reaching the vicinity of gigahertz and switching times are getting to the subnanosecond levels. The ever increasing quest for high-speed applications is placing higher demands on interconnect perf...

Transient Analysis of Lossy Transmission Lines: an Effective Approach Based on the Method of Characteristics

This paper is devoted to transient analysis of lossy transmission lines characterized by frequencydependent parameters. A public dataset of parameters for three line examples (a module, a board, and a cable) is used, and a new example of on-chip interconnect is introduced. This dataset provides a well established and realistic benchmark for accuracy and timing analysis of interconnect analysis ...

Lossy Transmission Line Modeling and Simulation Using Special Functions

A new algorithm for modeling and simulation of lossy interconnect structures modeled by transmission lines with Frequency Independent Line Parameters (FILP) or Frequency Dependent Line Parameters (FDLP) is developed in this research. Since frequency-dependent RLGC parameters must be employed to correctly model skin effects and dielectric losses for high-performance interconnects, we first study...
